Brenda L. Hampton, the executive producer of worst-rated TV drama "7th Heaven" and a member of the liberal so far to the left that she makes the Kennedies look moderate, once produced an episode on apartheid in Afghanistan. Now, for those of you who've never seen the show, its about an uppity overly religious family whose family falls apart after some acquaintance does socially acceptable but morally wrong things, like engage in premarital sex. However, after an hour, the reverend somehow comes around an fixes everything, and then they pray. Now, mind you, this was well before most Americans knew that Afghanistan wasn't a type of cover for the bed and before most could pick out Bin Laden from a lineup.
In this particular episode, charming and prepubescent Lucy Camden pickets somewhere in California for some reason in an attempt to "change things." The moment the sappy music starts playing and the mother and the years-from-being-hot daughter start to have their "moment," Lucy cries in vein "Why isn't something being done about this? Why are women allowed to suffer as so?" By "we" in the context of the show it was clearly meant the Government. The definite idea that the viewer is left with is that the United States should go into Afghanistan and rid the Taliban.
Of course, now that this is actually happening, guess who is an outspoken critic of the war on terror? Hm?
Discuss.
